The Children

Mistress Gwen Elliott
Behold the future! In a guild that spends its
time educating others about history, our children stand as a bright
representation of the future of our guild. St Andrew’s stands apart from
many other guilds by recognizing this fact and creating a special place for
our children to relax and be themselves in the constant whirlwind that is
Her Majesty’s court.
The Children's Household is comprised of all of the children in St. Andrew's
0-16 years of age, and any/all adults that care to help them. It is
structured as Her Majesty's Schola, traveling with her from place to place,
and run by Mistress Gwendolyn Elliot and Mistress Akira MacCallen.
The children have a pavilion of their own where they can take a break from
their characters and be themselves, under the ever-watchful eyes of the
Children's Household Adults and/or Highlanders. There are lots of toys to
play with, donated by various and sundry members of the guild. On a typical
day, the household has at least one hour of structured play (i.e. an art
project, a sword class, court etiquette lessons, Tea with Her Majesty,
etc.). The children are also encouraged to explore the other households in
the guild through an apprenticeship program. It is our hope that this
program will foster a love for history and re-enacting in our children,
enabling our guild families to enjoy this pastime together for many years to
come.
We believe that it is important to reward the children for all of their
contributions to the guild. As members of the Children's Household, each
child is eligible to earn the Phoenix Award. This award is given to the
child who most exemplifies honesty, loyalty, hard work and graciousness at a
given event. The Phoenix Award can only be earned once in a lifetime and it
stands as a prestigious honor for all of those who are recognized with it.
As an adult, being in the Children's Household is very rewarding. Not only
do you get to spend time with these little sponges, but you also become
Auntie or Uncle to an ever-growing population of poppets.
So come and discover the wee ones who stand as the future of our guild.
